When getting to menopause, life can suck (so I’ve heard–not actually at that point yet 😉 ). Hot flashes, insomnia, irritability, declining sex drive, depression/anxiety, mood swings, night sweats, irregular bleeding (source), etc.
With all of this, it’s no wonder many women look to hormone therapy (HT) or hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for relief. But HRT or HT does nasty things to your body. For example, some of the side-effects include nausea, headaches, mood swings, fluid retention, depression, cancer, blood clots, stroke (source), and reduced life-span. (Did you notice that the same ailments are listed as both symptoms of menopause and side-effects of HRT? Not so helpful is it now?)
Thus, when finding ways to cope with menopause, consider these 3 alternatives.
(1) Acupuncture for menopause is increasingly common due to it’s effectiveness, lack of side-effects, and reliability. I talked about acupuncture for menopause extensively in an earlier post.
(2) Chinese herbal medicine is also useful for menopause. It can save time relative to weekly acupuncture sessions, is good for those wary of needles/acupuncture, or as a supplement to acupuncture treatments. I’ve also discussed the various herbal patent medicines used to alleviate menopausal symptoms.
(3) And finally, there are a couple of products that are I can personally recommend through my mother’s experience of perimenopause. Contact me via the contact page for more info on the products or stories from other women.
So before doing something that may harm you body more than help, look to better, safer, healthier alternatives.
