Today’s is a guest post that although may seem cheesy, is actually good, straightforward, reasonable advice.

1352357772omussIt seems these days that the world is obsessed with physical appearance. Celebrities have near-perfect bodies, and young people do their best to model after them, even though most celebrities have unhealthy weights. Since everyone cares so much about physical appearance, those who aren’t blessed from birth with attractive features and good bone structure are at a disadvantage. Of course not everything is based on looks, but unfortunately, your appearance comes into play in more situations than you’d expect.

The obvious example is in relationships. When you approach a potential date, the first thing they consider about you is your looks. If they don’t like the way you look, you might not even get a chance to talk to them much. Even if you are a caring, loving, intellectual, interesting person, your looks can stop you from getting dates! While this situation is definitely not fair, it’s the way things work, for the most part. There are of course some people who look past your appearance, and consider all your attributes, but unfortunately, the vast majority of people place a huge importance on your physical appearance when considering you for a date.

But your looks come in to play in many more situations than just relationships. Looking good gives you a confidence boost, which makes it easier to land a job, get a promotion, make new friends, and a lot more. Of course you CAN have good confidence without looking great, but it is difficult for most people. If you are a happy, confident, self-aware person, who doesn’t have the best looks, you are a better person than most! Most individuals these days are self conscious about their looks, and beat themselves up over not looking perfect.

This article will teach you how to improve your physical appearance, quickly and easily. It will not teach you how to look perfect, as that is an unattainable goal. If you are aiming for perfection, stop now. It just won’t happen. However, if you accept that perfection is nonexistent in this world, and instead just try to improve your looks step by step, you will be successful. This article will give you most of the tools you need to look your best, but ultimately YOU have to put in the effort. All this article can do is give you the tools and information to help you on your way.

Get In Shape

If you want to look better, your number 1 priority should be getting in shape. This means maintaining a good weight for your height and body type (based on BMI or other measurements), having some muscle tone, and eating healthy. You don’t have to live at the gym or run marathons – you just have to put in work, ideally on a daily basis. Exercise only works if you do it regularly, so keep that in mind.

You should start by assessing your current situation. Do a BMI test online using a free calculator such as the one offered by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Determine your BMI, and use that number to assess whether or not you need to lose weight or just work on your muscle tone. Usually it will be a combination of both, and unless you are close to the underweight category (below 18.5 BMI) then it won’t hurt to lose a few pounds!

Next, you should make a detailed plan. This plan should include cardiovascular exercises, such as running, jogging, swimming, etc. Cardio is the backbone of good health, so make sure you get enough exercise in that category. Experts recommend 30 minutes of solid cardio workouts daily. If you find that you are unable to jog for a solid 30 minutes, you can break it up into small chunks. Jog for 10 minutes, walk for 10 minutes, then go back to jogging. Rinse and repeat until you are too tired to go on. If running is too hard on your joints, consider swimming laps to get your cardio workout in.

Your plan should also include weight lifting and other body sculpting activities. Target the areas you want to improve, and use the Internet to identify workouts that target those areas. There are many muscle groups in your body, and nowadays, it is relatively easy to find information concerning how to train specific muscle groups. Keep in mind that your muscles will need time to rest and grow. To account for this, you should alternate between muscle groups, giving a specific group 1-2 days between workouts to heal and develop. Also, make sure you are eating enough protein to replenish what you burned off during your workout.

Lastly, your plan should include a diet. Even if you have a healthy BMI, and don’t feel that you need to lose weight, following a diet can still be very beneficial. If you want to see good results from all your exercise, eating well is important. As mentioned, make sure you eat enough protein. Try to choose healthy sources of protein like those that are free-range, grass-fed or wild-caught. Eat plenty of fiber, and if you can’t find enough in your regular diet, consider taking a fiber supplement. Avoid sugary and starchy foods whenever possible and even more than you think necessary.

Take a Multivitamin

Many people don’t fully understand the importance of taking a good multivitamin. Our modern diets simply do not provide sufficient vitamins and nutrients. Processed foods are often completely devoid of any helpful vitamins. Even people who eat healthy and avoid processed foods can still benefit from taking a multivitamin.

Vitamins help the body function properly. Each vitamin helps in a different way, which is why it’s best to take a complete multivitamin instead of 10+ individual vitamins. Most of the time, multivitamins are formulated to give you the recommended daily amount of each specific vitamin. Some vitamins, such as vitamin C, you essentially can’t get enough of, while for many other vitamins, you should stick to the recommended doses.

Take a trip to your local health foods store, and ask them what they recommend. Smaller stores are usually better because the people working their generally own the place, and have much more knowledge than your average GNC or supermarket employee. They will be able to assess your body type, age, etc. and identify a good multivitamin for you. Once you have selected one, simply follow the instructions on the bottle!

Taking a multivitamin can help you look better in a large variety of ways. First of all, vitamins A, E, C and B help repair damaged skin, improving the overall look of your skin. Vitamin B12 gives you more energy, allowing you to exercise harder and lose more weight. Calcium, which is a nutrient instead of a vitamin (but is still included in many multivitamins), helps with bone strength and helps you to avoid injuries, which will allow you to continue working out and staying healthy. These are just a few examples of how vitamins and minerals can help on your journey to better looks.

Add some Style

Having nice clothes can instantly improve your looks, and in turn improve your confidence. For many people, there is nothing quite like a brand new outfit. While you can buy individual pieces of clothing and try to mix-match them together, it is often better to select entire outfits. If you’re a stylish person, you probably already know what looks good on you. If not, ask your friends to help.

It’s all about finding the clothes that compliment your body type and skin tone. If you don’t think you can do this on your own, bring someone along to help. If none of your friends are “stylish”, then consider going to an upscale clothing store to try stuff on. Expensive clothing stores often have people to help you select outfits that compliment your body. These people are generally well trained, and can find clothes that fit you perfectly. Keep in mind that you don’t necessarily have to buy anything from the store if you can’t afford it. However, if you take up a lot of the employee’s time, it might be nice to give them a small tip, assuming they are allowed to accept it.

Get a Nice Haircut

Your hairstyle has a huge effect on your looks. It can make or break your appearance. Since everyone is different, there is no one hairstyle that looks good on everybody. In fact, something that looks great on one person might look terrible on another person. It depends on your body type, skin tone, the shape of your head, and a number of other factors.

At most barber shops there is a catalog of hairstyles that you can browse through. Use this catalog to select 2-3 styles that you think might look good on you. Show them to your stylist, and see what they think. If you’re going for a completely new look, it will be worth it to visit a nice hairstylist. It may be expensive, but they know what looks good and what doesn’t. Plus, once a skilled hairstylist cuts your hair once, you will have the blueprints for future haircuts. When it comes time for your next haircut, you should be able to go to a cheaper barber and show them pictures of what your hair looked like right after the professional hairstylist finished their job.

Find The Right Soap Products

Many people have minor allergic reactions to their soap products without even knowing it. These reactions can lead to rashes, dry skin, oily skin, and an array of other skin conditions. Finding the right soap product can be difficult since there are so many on the market, but it will be worth it in the end. Keep in mind that this applies to all types of soaps – shampoo, hand soap – even dish soap. If you don’t have any skin issues, the soaps you are using are just fine.

Be Hygienic

Being hygienic should be a habit by now, but if it’s not, now is the time to start. In order to look your best, you should shower daily (or twice daily, if needed). You should wash your face with a good cleanser before going to bed. Clean your ears with q-tips, but make sure to not enter the ear canal, as it can damage your hearing.

You should also pay close attention to your teeth. If your teeth are healthy and white, just keep brushing and flossing daily. If your teeth are not so white, visit the dentist or select an over the counter whitening product. Generally, whitening products can help with minor surface stains, but if your teeth are very stained, you’ll want to see a dentist immediately. Also, regardless of the condition of your teeth, you should be flossing twice daily. Put a little bit of toothpaste in your mouth, and floss between each and every tooth. This will help with gum health, tooth health, and reduce bad breath significantly.

When you shower, keep in mind that you should only wash your hair every other day, unless of course your hair gets very dirty or oily. Hair contains natural vitamins that are beneficial to the look and feel of your hair. Unfortunately, shampoos and conditioners wash these vitamins away. To give your hair time to benefit from these vitamins, simply wash your hair every other day instead of daily. It’s a simple change that can have a huge effect on the health of your hair.

Smile and Be Happy!

Your mood and overall attitude has a large impact on your looks. If you are gloomy and sad, you will find that you are not attractive to most people. If you smile, and be happy, you will find that people flock to you. Show off your smile, and be as outgoing as possible. Be friendly, happy, and healthy, and you will live a great life!
