India’s traditional medicine, known as Ayurveda, uses constitution-typing (Pakruti): categorizing people broadly into 3 types based characteristics that roughly describe personality, body shape and function, proscribed diet, sleep, and activity level.  In Ayurveda, the 3 constitutions, in Sanskrit called Doshas, are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

You can figure out which Dosha you are by taking the Ayurveda Constitution Test.  Once you know which of your Doshas is dominant, then you can start to learn more about foods that are best for your constitution.

In Ayurveda, foods are typically used to balance the Doshas.  Is is believed that a perfectly healthy person has an equal proportion of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Here is a list of juices suggested for each of the constitutions.

Juice for Vata

  • Carrot
  • Papaya
  • Grape
  • Mango
  • Orange

Juice for Pitta

  • Apple
  • Grape
  • Mango
  • Orange
  • Pomegranate

Juice for Kapha

  • Carrot
  • Grape
  • Mango
  • Pomegranate

The juices are meant to be fresh, non-sweetened, non-pasteurized, with no additives or preservatives for the best health effects. If you can make your own juice, either with a juicer, or with a blender and strainer, that is best.  Otherwise, be sure to read the ingredients on bottled juices.
