Today’s guest post shares the principles of the primal diet, based on consuming nutrient-dense foods that our ancestors would likely have consumed.

You are what you eat. The quality of your mental and physical state depends largely on the type of food you eat or avoid.

To live healthier and happier, you really need to eat those foods that our ancestors ate in order to live longer and healthier. In this article, we are going to share the foods to eat or avoid.

Foods to eat

Fruits

Fruits are generally healthy- most of them are naturally low in calories, and free of additives or preservatives. Fruits are composed of so many essential nutrients such as folate (folic acid), vitamin C, dietary fiber etc.

Meats

Most people erroneously have reservations about eating meat, without knowing that meats contain so many nutrients to benefit the physical, mental and emotional states. Meats supply many nutrients to the body such as Vitamin B (B6, riboflavin, thiamin, and niacin), protein, magnesium, zinc, iron, vitamin E. Your body needs foods that are rich in protein- it serves as building blocks for blood, skin, cartilage, muscles and bones.

Seeds

Seeds are powerhouses; you can eat as many seeds as you’d like.  Including seeds to your weekly diets will give rise to so many health benefits such as vision support, brain performance, healthy hair, skin and nails, healthy heart, happy tummy. Plus seeds can help boost immunity, grow muscle mass, support bone maintenance, cell production, etc.

Raw dairy products

Raw dairy products contain high volume of amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, anti-microbials, than eating pasteurized milk. Advocates also claim that it is a perfect choice for people living with allergic conditions, autoimmune, asthma, lactose intolerance etc.

Honey

Honey has many health benefits, including aiding weight maintenance, nourishing skin and face, strengthening the immune system, boosting memory; it also acts as a natural remedy for dandruff, and can be used in wound healing. Honey contains a lot of nutrients, rich in antioxidants, including those to lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol, and lower triglycerides.

Vegetables

Vegetables contain many health benefits. Dietary fiber in vegetables will help in maintaining your blood pressure, lowering the risk of heart disease, and regulates your blood cholesterol levels. Vegetables contain quality nutrients that will maintain your body and health.

Green superfood powder can boost your intake of green veggies because it contains veggies, phytonutrient-packed fruits, nutritious greens, probiotics, digestive enzymes and cereal grasses in an accessible format. This combination has the capacity to boost your immune system, enhance detoxification, as well as increase energy.

Food to avoid

Obviously, if you want to live longer and healthier, then you should avoid processed foods and all the foods mentioned below:

Alcohol
Some people erroneously believe that taking alcohol makes them feel better and happier. Research shows that taking alcohol could give rise to many chronic or neurological diseases like anxiety, depression, cancer, etc. If you are depressed, alcohol can make your depression or anxiety worse.

Excessive alcohol can have multiple negative impacts on your brain. However, among elderly people, moderate drinking may have some health benefits like enhancing their brain function.

Peanuts

Research shows that peanuts are significant cause of cancer. Thus, you will be doing your health a great disservice by regularly consuming peanuts.

Grains

Grains contain a lot of anti-nutrients which may cause tooth decay, blood sugar imbalances, inflammation, heart disease, mood changes, obesity and so on. Grains are bad for you because as humans, you are not biologically adapted to eat them.

Processed foods

Processed foods are bad for your health for multiple reasons- they tend to be high in fructose corn syrup, sugar, refined carbohydrates, contain artificial ingredients, be low in fiber, low in nutrients, and take a lot of time to digest. Thus, you will not be fair to your health by consistently eating processed foods.

Sugar

It is not good for you to eat a diet rich in beverages and processed foods due to their high sugar content. Consistently consuming sugar in your diet increases cancer risk, insulin resistance, and inflammation of your body.

Refined Vegetable oils

During the process of refining “vegetables,” though really industrial seed oils, these types of oils generally pass through rancid polyunsaturated fatty acids, and with time these oils can oxidize.

Refined vegetable oils can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, depress immune system, slow blood flow, contribute to insulin resistance, damage blood vessels etc.

Conclusion

If you want to live healthier and longer in good health, then try as much as possible to avoid eating foods which our ancestors didn’t eat, such as modern processed grains like corn and wheat. It is highly beneficial to prepare your own foods at home, rather than buying foods outside. Most of the processed foods people eat have often unexpected deadly ingredients in them. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of this fact.

Eat foods that will help you to be at a health weight. Eat foods that contain healthy ingredients- this will surely go a long way in enhancing your health performance.
