Continuing the TCM weight loss series, useful points on the ear to benefit the diet. In a strange connection between the ear and the rest of the body, different areas on the ear represent different organs and parts of the body; picture the ear as a baby curled up, head down, to get a general sense of where the points are. This connection happens through meridians and energy pathways. In that way, we can use the various points on the ear that correspond the stomach, spleen, pancreas, liver, large and small intestines to modulate function and increase weight loss.

During my weight loss sessions, the doctor would apply small metal balls covered with a sticker to areas such as those corresponding to my stomach or spleen as a subtle way to discourage overeating.  She’d also choose points that have an influence on sleeping and stress-related hormone production, as both of those factors are key to weight loss as well. For example, tiredness from lack of sleep can manifest as hunger or stress leads to wanting to eat sweet foods.  Helping the body naturally overcome these triggers can prevent needless eating and thus aid weight loss.

But the most important ear point is on the small flaps in front of the ear. Point for Weight Loss See where I’m holding in the photo.  Pinching these points on both ears can significantly enhance appetite control and reduce hunger sensations.  This is a great tip for anyone on any kind of weight loss program: pinch these points when you feel excessively hungry or about 10-15 minutes before a meal to prevent overeating.
